Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College has found a
distinct spot in the educational map of south Tamilnadu. It is a
unique Alma Mater to a galaxy of eminent men and women shining in
various realms of life in India and abroad. Since its inception in
1974, the institution has been a channel of blessing to the under
privileged. It was on 22nd November in 1973, a team
of dedicated dignitaries belonging to Naidu Community took the
initiative of establishing an Educational Institution. The role-played
by Mr.M.Alagarsamy Naidu, President, Tamilnadu Naidu Mahajana Sangam,
Mr.K.Rajaram Naidu, member of the Legislative Council of Tamilnadu,
Justice R.Rengasamy Naidu, Mr.K.V.Subba Naicker, Managing Director, Sri
Ganapathy Mills is commendable. It is through the unstinting efforts
and determination of these patrons, Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College
blossomed out into a edifice of learning. With Mr.P.Subbiah Naidu as
the Secretary, the college took wings and it has weathered many storms
to impart higher education to the Telugu people of Madurai District
who were economically weak and socially marginalised.
The University granted its formal approval to this college on 20.6.74 on
the recommendation of the One Man Commission sent by the University
to assess the required infrastructural facilities. The college started
functioning from the academic year 1974-1975 at Rama Vilas Mandapam
with the blessings of Mr.Rajaram Naidu, the leader of the opposition
party in the Legislative Council of Tamilnadu. Initially the college
offered Pre-University Course and it had one hundred and forty five
students on the roll.

Governments. Of the total 31.83 acres, 24.52 acres was donated by the
Central Government while 7.31 acres was given by the State Government.
The Central Government's noble gesture to the college was based on
the strong recommendation of Mr. K. Brahamanandha Reddy, Union
Minister for Internal Affairs on his visit to the college on 29.07.1976.
Mr. K. Rajaram Naidu, the former Minister, played a pivotal role in
getting the allotment of lands to the college.

Industrialist from Coimbatore and Mr. K. Kalimuthu, Minister for Local
Administration, laid the foundation stone for the college and hostel
buildings on 23.10.1977.
Our college was upgraded to Degree

abolition of Pre-University course. The college was shifted to
Pasumalai on 04.9.1979.
Our institution was the first in
Madurai city to introduce Men's College at the Under Graduate level
during the academic year 1982-83. Such is the genesis and growth of the
institution.
